Fractures in the face caused by serious accidents or aggressions require specific treatment to recover not only the esthetics but also the functionality of the affected area.
Types of facial fractures
Bone fractures. Fractures of the bones of the face cause problems both from the esthetic and functional point of view.
Fractures of the maxilla or mandible. The fracture of the maxilla or mandible causes an alteration in the relationship between the upper and lower teeth (alteration of dental occlusion) that can lead to serious complications (difficulty in chewing, pain, problems in the temporomandibular joint …) if a perfect reduction and stabilization of the fracture is not performed.
Orbital fractures. Orbital fractures should also be corrected to preserve the infraorbital (eye) contents in proper condition and function. Nasal fractures should be evaluated and, above all, the presence of septal hematoma should be ruled out, as it could lead to septal necrosis. In case of nasal deviation and deformity, it should be reduced. Malar and zygomatic arch fractures, if deviated, can produce a significant esthetic defect and should also be reduced.
The management of facial fractures by a specialized team is essential to ensure proper fracture reduction and fixation, with minimally invasive techniques and maximum bone regeneration.
Dental trauma
Dental trauma can vary from mild enamel damage to avulsion of a tooth outside its supporting bone. In the event of dental trauma, it is essential to act quickly in order to preserve the dental organ.
